At Dessau Vet Clinic, our North Austin veterinarian takes great pride in serving the surrounding areas, including Pflugerville, with the best in puppy and kitten care. Whether you're thinking about taking in a new pet or have already adopted one in the recent past, there are some important care considerations that need to be followed to ensure the best health and wellness for your new pet.
When it comes to kitten and puppy care, one of the most important things you can do once you adopt one is to schedule a comprehensive wellness exam with a trusted veterinarian. Here at Dessau Vet Clinic, we offer physical exams and every other veterinary service your new kitten or puppy could need. Setting up a wellness exam is a great way for us to get to know your pet and begin keeping track of its health, which will make it easier for us to identify any potentially troublesome changes in health down the road.
This also gives us a chance to make sure your new pet is up-to-date on any necessary vaccinations, which we can administer here in our office. For most puppies and kittens, for example, a rabies vaccine should be given around 12 weeks, along with core and distemper vaccinations.
And of course, when you bring your kitten or puppy into our office for a wellness exam, this gives you the opportunity to ask our veterinarian any questions you may have about kitten or puppy care, such as what to feed your new pet or how much exercise they need on a daily basis. We can also discuss the proper timing to have your pet spayed or neutered if this hasn't been done already.
